When you open and close the garage door, the last thing you think about is the bolts, the screws, and the nuts! You may even be unaware of their existence. And that’s absolutely natural. After all, you have no time for additional thoughts, headaches, burdens. You already have a lot on your mind! Why on earth should you care about the garage door fasteners? All you want to do is to be able to move the overhead garage door up and down and so, come and go with ease. Right?
Right. All is swell, apart from the fact that if you don’t care about these tiny components, they won’t take care of you either. And believe it. This is bad news.
Okay, you say. Let’s play along. Which are the garage door fasteners, where are they found, why should I care?
Which are the garage door fasteners?
Have you ever thought what keeps the garage door rollers in place? Let’s make it easy for you. The garage door hinges. And the next question is this: what keeps the hinges in place? Bolts and nuts. What about the brackets, which are actually found all over the garage door? Don’t they also need some screws or bolts to stay in place?
To make a long story short, there are fasteners everywhere. These are in the form of bolts, nuts, screws, pins. And all such fasteners come in different types, sizes, styles. After all, not all garage doors are the same and so, they all have different components. On top of that, the fasteners are used to keep in place various parts – hinges and brackets, for example.
Who wants the garage door off track?
Garage door fasteners do exactly what their name implies. They fasten. They fasten the brackets so that the garage door tracks won’t fall out of place. And so, it doesn’t take long to realize how useful these little components are. The devil is in the detail, right?
Picture the bolts that keep the brackets that keep the tracks in place coming off or loosening up. What will happen? With the fasteners not holding the brackets tightened, the tracks will fall out of alignment and the overhead door may bind or get jammed. Even if the fasteners are a tad loosen, the garage door will vibrate. Chances are high that it will come off. It may jam.
Imagine having similar fastener-related problems with the garage door springs. If their hardware is loose, if the brackets vibrate, the garage door may not even open all the way. It may not remain open. Problems, problems, problems – there’s a big list, actually, of things that may go wrong if the fasteners are loose, if they are damaged, if they are missing, if they get rusty, or even if you get the wrong ones. Why risk it?
How to have peace of mind? Inspection. Garage door maintenance
It’s common practice that a typical garage door maintenance service includes the inspection of the fasteners. The lubrication and the tightening of such hardware. And it’s absolutely understandable. The effort here is to keep the garage door moving properly, safely.
And so, you take the trip backwards. What keeps the garage door moving? The main parts – the garage door opener, the springs, the cables, the tracks. And what allows the good operation of such parts? The fact that they are in place. And what keeps them in place? The fasteners. Here you go.
The good news is that all it’s needed is some routine inspection from time to time, just to be sure they are okay. And they also need some regular lubrication, perhaps some tightening. And then, you don’t fear about serious problems that happen due to the fasteners. Isn’t it important that we give them just a teeny-weeny attention?
